Saturday, March 15th is our Pack 88 hike at Ringing Rocks Park, located at 1750 Ringing Rocks Rd, Upper Black Eddy, PA 18972.
We are planning to meet as a Pack at 11:00am on the morning of the 15th. The park is approximately a one-hour drive from the Oreland/Flourtown area. Please plan to pack a lunch and some snacks/hydration for the hike. In addition to the boulder field, there are also trails throughout the park, one of which leads to a scenic, small waterfall.
As the name implies, if you haven’t been to Ringing Rocks before, plan to bring a small hammer or metal tool to tap on the various boulders to hear them ring like a bell. Not all the boulders ring, only the ones within the boulder field itself and only those that are not partially buried in the soil.
On account of the boulder field, adult supervision is necessary at all times, as scouts will be tempted to clamber across the rocks and could easily injure themselves. For those tapping on the rocks, take care not to smash the hammer onto the rock face and send rock shards flying.
Similarly, with the hike to the waterfall, supervision will be necessary as we approach the cliff overview of the waterfall. The trails across the park are not difficult to traverse, but shoes with ankle support are highly recommended, especially if you will be exploring the boulder field.
Upon arrival, we will meet up as a group before spending time at the boulder field. At approximately noon, we will hike to the nearby waterfall, where we can stop to enjoy the scenery and eat our packed lunches. If space is limited at the waterfall, there are picnic tables at the parking lot near the exit of the trail leading out from the waterfall.
Following the hike, some people will be heading to Kids Castle in Doylestown (425 Wells Road, Doylestown, PA), a free, impressively large playground approximately 35 minutes along the route home from Ringing Rocks.
